Martin didn’t find bookkeeping — bookkeeping found him. Born and raised in the Czech Republic, he spent years building a career as a financial advisor, earning his coveted European Financial Advisor (€FA) certificate in 2017 — a qualification held by only a handful of advisors in the entire country at the time. It was, by any measure, a remarkable achievement.
But Martin had a bigger adventure in mind. His goal was simple: learn English and see the world. With a great mate already calling Sydney home, he packed his bags and made the bold decision to cross the globe to the most foreign place he could imagine — a land of spectacular nature, different seasons, and an energy entirely unlike anything in Europe.

Arriving in Australia in 2017, Martin quickly realised that continuing as a financial advisor wasn’t possible without starting university from scratch — something that, as a new arrival, simply wasn’t an option. So he did what every great problem-solver does: he adapted. He enrolled in college, committed fully to accounting, and within three years had earned his Certificate IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma of Accounting — all while working as a bookkeeper.
That drive didn’t go unnoticed. He joined Stewardship Accountants, where he became their main bookkeeper, specialising in annual bookkeeping service agreements. Meanwhile, he taught himself everything there was to know about Xero — not just the basics, but the whole ecosystem: Xero HQ, Xero Blue, XPM, Xero Workpapers, Hubdoc, FYI, and Ignition. He didn’t just use these tools — he administered them.
In 2025, Martin launched Simply Clever Bookkeeping Pty Ltd, becoming a registered BAS Agent in January 2026. The name is a nod to his Czech roots — inspired by Škoda, the car maker whose motto “Simply Clever” became famous for delivering brilliantly simple solutions that just work. Martin believes the same principle applies to bookkeeping: if you can solve a problem simply and efficiently, you are already an expert.

Today, Martin works with a real mix of small business owners across Sydney — the people who are brilliant at what they do, but who didn’t go into business to stare at spreadsheets. He takes the books off their hands so they can focus on the work they love.
Martin is refreshingly direct. He won’t dress up bad news or bury uncomfortable truths in jargon — if something needs to be said, he’ll say it clearly and move straight to fixing it. The trial period is a dedicated getting-to-know-you phase at the start of our working relationship. It costs a flat $100.00 AUD — the same for every new client, regardless of how complex your books are. No surprises, no hidden fees.
During this time, we’ll dig into your books, get a clear picture of what’s involved, and build a solid foundation together. By the end, you’ll have a real sense of what working with Simply Clever Bookkeeping actually feels like — and we’ll be able to offer you a monthly price that’s genuinely tailored to your situation, not just a rough guess.
Your trial period is at least 30 days long. The exact length depends on when you join us — because we invoice on the 1st of each month to keep things clean and predictable for everyone.
Here’s how that works in practice:
Your trial starts on the 8th (the day your $100 payment clears into our account). It runs for a minimum of 30 days, taking you to at least the 7th of the following month. Since we begin regular monthly billing on the 1st of each month, your ongoing service actually kicks off on the 1st of the month after that — which means you get roughly 23 extra days at no additional cost. Not a bad deal.
Your trial starts on the 21st. Thirty days later takes you to around the 20th of the following month — which is already past the 1st. So your ongoing service begins on the 1st of the month after that — giving you around 10 extra days for free on top of your 30-day trial.
In short: you always get at least 30 days, and often a little more. You’ll never be left wondering — we’ll let you know your exact trial start date as soon as your payment is confirmed.
The trial period is designed to give you genuine peace of mind before committing to anything ongoing. Here’s what you get:

During the trial period, there’s a small chance we may need to decline to continue. This can happen if your books turn out to be outside the scope of what we currently handle — for example, if the complexity exceeds our current capacity, or if your situation requires specialised knowledge we don’t yet offer.
If that ever happens, we won’t leave you in the dark. We’ll always explain why, clearly and respectfully, and point you in the right direction.
Please note: the $100 trial fee is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome. This covers the real work we’ve done to properly assess your books and set things up on our end.
